úbeda

Úbeda is such a discovery - a beautiful historic city that like much of Andalucia was changed over time by the many groups who settled there:  Romans, Visigoths, Muslims, Christians and Jews. We had an excellent guide throughout our time in Úbeda who walked us through the history of this place. We visited an olive estate and sampled olive oil, discussing the qualities that make one oil superior to another. We were fortunate to be in Úbeda for the feast day of Saint Isidore, the Catholic patron saint of farmers in Spain. It felt like the entire town participated in a parade that included children singing and dozens of tractors. After our first morning in Úbeda, we started a habit of waking early to watch the sun rise in each of our destinations - the views were always spectacular.
